Assistant Manager School of the Arts Makerspaces

Position: Western Colorado University invites applications for full-time position of Assistant Manager of the School of the Arts Makerspaces. The position reports to Dean of the School of the Arts and works closely with the Assistant Manager in the Rady School of Computer Science and Engineering Makerspace to coordinate supervision of equipment spaces and student employees in the metalworking woodworking and fabrication facilities in the Arts building Quigley Hall. These spaces are undergoing a remodel in Summer 2025 to include new state-of-the-art equipment for metal and woodworking.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Makerspace Manager supports the School of the Arts labs makerspaces and hands-on project-based learning initiatives including those connected to an anticipated Industrial Design program. This position is responsible for managing lab and makerspace operating hours and providing direct support for student projects. Additionally the Assistant Makerspace Manager will help facilitate and support summer programming and partnerships as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in any field plus 3 years of experience in industrial design fabrication CNC router operation welding prototyping or woodshop or 8 years of related work experience.
  • Industry or educational experience in industrial design engineering architecture or manufacturing.
  • Ability to work with novice students in workshops while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Ability to learn how to operate new equipment and train others on appropriate use.
  • Experience working with manufacturing equipment and adhering to safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in industrial design or related technical field
  • Experience working with students or trainees.
  • Experience developing tutorials courses or training materials related to workshop operations.
  • Skilled in CNC operation welding prototyping and woodshop equipment use.

Compensation: Salary Range $58000-$62000/year. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
