The Family Justice Center is hiring for an Intake Specialist. The Buncombe County Family Justice Center (FJC) is a safe place where survivors of domestic violence sexual assault and elder abuse can access many different services in one location and begin their journey toward hope healing and safety. This position provides trauma-informed integrated intake services for survivors accessing services at the Family Justice Center.This is one of two Intake Specialist positions. The Intake Specialist role explains available services from the multiple partner agencies reviews confidentiality policies coordinates initial service provision escorts clients through the Center and into secure areas and answers questions. This position reports to the Family Justice Centers Program Manager. The position works from the Intake desk at 35 Woodfin Avenue Asheville NC 28801 and has free parking at our County-owned parking deck behind the building.

This position is posted until Sunday August 17th. The Family Justice Centers Program Manager expects to host interviews and make a final candidate selection by August 22ndwith the new hire starting work September 8thor 22nd depending on their availability.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct services to justice involved individuals based on assigned justice services program.

Minimum Education Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of related criminal justice and/or human services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Peer Support Specialist or qualified mental health and/or substance abuse professional preferred

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Case management to include screening participants creating service/diversion plans facilitating classes connecting participants to community resources as needed and developing transitions/follow-up plans for participants no longer enrolled in program.

  • Process eligible cases through the system in an organized and timely manner; Ensure accurate and timely documentation of participant information to ensure quality assurance and outcomes of programs being offered.

  • Participate in treatment team meetings to include treatment court staffing meeting and court sessions diversion classes and/or re-entry meetings.

  • Monitors and tracks client progress and participant program compliance to include performing drug testing advocating for participant needs providing personal support education and crisis management sufficient to promote recovery rehabilitation and progress.

  • Maintain relationships with partner agencies and community referrals.

  • Ensure processes used in assigned program comply with approved program goals.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local criminal justice systems and county government.

  • Knowledge of principles practices procedures and philosophies of public administration health and behavioral health systems community-based services.

  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional standards federal state and local laws or ordinances.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of case management; interviewing methods and techniques; substance abuse and mental health assessments and services; diagnostic methods and principles; basic structure of the criminal justice systems; MS Office software; and experience in data entry in a web-based data system.

  • Skilled in identifying symptoms of substance abuse and mental health treatment needs; solving problems analytically; maintaining accurate records files and reports; coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously; communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with court staff and individuals outside of the judicial branch; developing and fostering a spirit of teamwork to improve the quality of treatment court work teams diversion services and/or re-entry services and committees and to bring people from different agencies together to accomplish the goals of the program.

  • Interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisor the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
