Mohs Surgery Technician

VA Medical Center San Francisco

  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: Full-Time 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $25.00 to $29.00/hour. (Negotiable)
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Summary of Duties

A Mohs Technician assists dermatologic surgeons during Mohs surgery by preparing processing and analyzing tissue specimens. This role requires precision attention to detail and a strong understanding of histological techniques.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Formal training or certification in histotechnology or surgical assisting (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Mohs surgery or histology lab
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgeon before during and after Mohs procedures
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and the operating room
  • Process embed cut and stain tissue specimens for microscopic examination
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment (e.g. cryostats microtomes staining apparatus)
  • Map tissue samples and ensure accurate documentation
  • Perform quality control checks on slides and maintain patient identification accuracy
  • Provide post-operative care instructions to patients
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies for the procedure room
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment
