Job Description

Title: Sr. Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement

Date: September 2025

I. Reporting Relationships

Position Reports to:Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Supervisory Responsibility:Constituent Engagement and Events Manager; Career Services and Alumni Coordinator

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility:none

Position Backup:Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement

II. Basic Function

A key member of the Universitys dynamic advancement team the Sr. Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement reports to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Through programs and direct personal interactions the Director engages alumni donors and friends and advances those relationships in ways that address institutional strategic objectives. The Sr. Director oversees project management and financial reporting functions for endowments and scholarships and works with the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement the Sr. Campaign & Major Gifts Officer and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to collaboratively manage donor portfolios to achieved fundraising success. The Sr. Director leads plans and executes a comprehensive strategy of communications activities events ongoing programs and volunteer management efforts that are coordinated and fully integrated with the larger plans of institutional Advancement and the University. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the strategy and activities of the Alumni Council and directing alumni activities including Alumni Weekend programming and awards as well as the engagement and stewardship of donors and other constituencies. The role plans and implements a comprehensive multi-channel communication and engagement plan for alumni donors and friends of the University.

III. Essential Functions

  1. Creates and executes the alumni engagement plan.
  2. Serve as a key member of the advancement team providing leadership and counsel to support leading practices and excellence in constituent engagement.
  3. Serves as liaison between the University and the Alumni Council and sub-committees to achieve quality alumni program development and implementation. Coordinates bi-monthly council meetings and monthly planning meetings with the Alumni Council President and additional council leadership or members.
  4. Plans and develops innovative programs to steward cultivate identify and recognize alumni volunteers and donors.
  5. In consultation with volunteers and the Institutional Advancement team coordinates and oversees all aspects of Alumni Weekend the Presidents Reception the annual scholarship luncheon and other priority alumni and constituent events as assigned by the AVPIA and VPIA.
  6. Create opportunities for alumni to engage in person and virtually.
  7. Incorporate alumni engagement into giving and stewardship strategies.
  8. Maintains a donor-centric gift portfolio of at least fifty alumni including personal meetings phone calls and additional outreach and communications. Tracks and reports on portfolio metrics. Responsible for moving alumni to donor-status and along the donor pipeline from lower-level giving to major gifts.
  9. Coordinates the recording of all alumni activities and events with the Director of Advancement Services to update and maintain engagement activity in the Blackbaud NXT database.
  10. Supervise the development of special programming for students and young alumni as well as graduates of the Universitys non-traditional programs.
  11. Works collaboratively with University Communications and Marketing to ensure seamless messaging and communications of core constituent messages.
  12. Oversee all campaign endowment. and annual fund special events on a strategic and tactical basis.
  13. Performs similar comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

IV. Qualifications

Knowledge: Bachelors degree required.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a position of similar responsibility is preferred. Demonstrated experience and success in cultivating managing and recognizing volunteers and providing effective management of committees.

Skills/Aptitude: Demonstrated success in volunteer management and event planning. The ability to work as an integral put of the Institutional Advancement team. Solid strategic planning skills with an understanding of tactical implementation. Excellent organizational and communication (written oral presentation) skills. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible resourceful creative collaborative efficient and effective in all aspects of the job.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment with one designated day of remote work each week id schedule permits. Attendance at University functions and evening and weekend events outside of normal business hours will be required. Some travel is also required.
