Job Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision incumbent will operate a wastewater treatment plant at the Tyger River Correctional Institution.
All systems shall be operated in accordance with established state and federal guidelines regulations standards and rules ensuring the quality of effluent meets NPDES and DHEC permit requirements.
Individual must hold current certifications as a biological wastewater operator with a minimum of level B.
The incumbent must obtain daily sample gathering and perform laboratory testing and reports; analysis & prep of various reporting forms and documents; detecting and correcting abnormal plant conditions utilizing chemical and/or mechanical adjustments; developing/implementing a preventive maintenance program and performing corrective maintenance on equipment and systems to include responding to off hour emergency maintenance and repairs.
The position will also support the institutional maintenance operations and the correctional facility.
Must successfully complete four (4) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelors degree in the natural or physical sciences mathematics public health engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
- A bachelors degree in natural or physical sciences mathematics public health engineering or a related tech field and three (3) years experience in the operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant.
OR
- An associates degree and five (5) years experience in the operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant.
OR
- A high school diploma and seven (7) years experience in the operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant.
Certified as a SC biological wastewater license operator with a minimum level B within three (3) years of hire must obtain a SC water distribution operator license with a level C.
