Job Description
Were looking for an experienced hands-on Controller to join our team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day finance operations payroll compliance and reporting while also helping shape financial strategy through insights and recommendations. The ideal candidate brings professionalism integrity and a team-first mindset and thrives in a fast-paced construction-driven environment. As you know payroll is a complex role that requires someone confident in managing it.
This is a full-time exempt role based onsite in Escondido Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with additional hours as needed.
Candidate must reside in North County San Diego or be able to commute daily to Escondido.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly financial reporting reconciliation and compliance processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Support annual budgeting forecasting and financial planning
- Oversee weekly payroll including prevailing wage requirements deductions and benefits reporting
- Manage labor compliance for prevailing wage subcontractors
- Monitor insurance fringe and benefits reporting; investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Handle tax filings audits and regulatory reporting requirements
- Manage month-end close and year-end financial activities
- Collaborate with HR and Operations on labor planning reporting and workforce compliance
- Support accurate job-cost tracking and adjustments
- Oversee asset management and annual reporting tasks
- Supervise payroll/accounting team members and support their development
- Perform other duties as needed to support the business
What Were Looking For
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field
- 5 years of experience in a construction environment with a strong background in payroll prevailing wage and WIP reporting
- Proficient in reconciliation job costing payroll AR/AP asset management and financial reporting
- Experience supervising accounting/payroll team members
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential data with care
- Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization
- Able to work collaboratively across multiple departments
- Must be based in North County San Diego or able to commute to Escondido daily
- Schedule: Full-time on-site Monday-Friday 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (additional hours as needed)
- Drug screen and background check required
- Working references must be provided

- Salary Range: $110000 $160000/year (DOE)
