About this role
The Grant Thornton Finance team is responsible for protecting and supporting the Firm our Partners and People in all matters financial and governance: including financial and trust accounting performance management tax and compliance credit and cashflow management and payroll.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting Operations the Financial Controller will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Finance Operations team including Payroll ensuring highly organised effective and customer-centric support to the wider business. You will also maintain the firms tax compliance obligations and work with the internal Tax team to advise on the tax implications of business decisions.
Please note that this position is a 12-month parental leave cover contract with the possibility of extension.
Key responsibilities
Ensure timely delivery accuracy and integrity of transactional finance / accounting / payroll period end results statutory compliance and reporting
Maintain compliance with Australian and international tax laws and provide tax advice to the business in liaison with the internal Tax team
Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all tax lodgements such as BAS FBT and income tax returns
Assist Head of Financial Accounting Operations in managing commercial aspects including statutory compliance risk management treasury (including bank covenant reporting cash flow management and forecasting) and general insurance including workers compensation
Provide support with month-end / year-end close processes cash flow forecasting and budgeting activities
Prepare annual financial statutory accounts and liaise with Internal Audit teams (where necessary) for the completion of annual financial statutory accounts and year-end audits
Responsible for the management and support of Trust Accounts under APES310 and AFSL licence reporting
Partner with Operations Executives in budget preparation and monitor costs vs. budget monthly
Model a culture of continuous improvement and data integrity helping to implement automation and internal controls and identifying areas for development
Skills and experience
Required
CA / CPA qualified (or equivalent)
Significant experience in a similar role ideally within a professional services environment
Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation regulations (company tax payroll tax GST and FBT)
Strong working knowledge of payroll regulations and the Fair Work Act
Familiarity with tax governance frameworks tax effect accounting and preparation of tax work papers
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel
Desirable
Advanced Power BI skills
Previous experience with Concur Great Plain Dynamics and / or Workday
