Reporting directly to the Cloud Operations Manager the Senior Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the delivery performance and reliability of St Vincents Azure and hybrid cloud environments. You will play a critical part in ensuring the availability security and scalability of core cloud infrastructure and services across Tier 0 platforms. This position supports day-to-day operations of St Vincents enterprise cloud platform delivering infrastructure-as-code (IaC) patching monitoring and incident response capabilities. You will work closely with cybersecurity networking and application teams to uphold best practice standards support automation initiatives and implement secure and resilient workloads.
This is a Permanent Full-Time position based in any of our Group Head Offices in Sydney Brisbane or Melbourne on a hybrid working arrangement 3 days a week in office and 2 days working from home. In this role there will be a requirement to work on-call and after hours as needed.
Key responsibilities of the role:
Serve as a key escalation point for major incidents and platform outages leading system patching vulnerability remediation and platform lifecycle activities
Take ownership of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) deployments and maintenance using tools like Terraform Bicep and Azure DevOps to lead automation and operational support
Deliver secure scalable and high-performance compute storage and backup services aligned with clinical cybersecurity and resilience requirements
Play a role in shaping the cloud infrastructure strategy and future-state design assisting with cloud migration workload modernisation and integrating new technologies
Work closely with cross-functional teams including cybersecurity network and application teams while providing technical leadership and mentoring to other cloud engineers
Implement security controls in alignment with Essential Eight and ISO27001 and maintain observability using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
Participate in the after-hours on-call roster ensuring timely resolution of high-priority incidents that affect clinical systems and supporting the resilience of life-critical platforms
Things that work for us:
Experience as a senior technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) managing Microsoft Azure cloud environments including compute storage networking databases identity and security
Advanced expertise in Terraform Bicep ARM templates and Azure DevOps for IaC CI/CD and platform automation. Scripting proficiency in PowerShell Azure CLI and Bash
Strong working knowledge of Azure security frameworks (RBAC PIM Conditional Access Defender Sentinel) aligned to ISO27001 Essential Eight and other compliance standards
Deep technical experience with Azure networking and proficiency in monitoring and cost optimisation using Azure Monitor Log Analytics Application Insights Budgets and Advisor
Extensive involvement in cloud migrations platform modernisation hybrid environments and legacy workload transformation
Effective stakeholder engagement across cybersecurity infrastructure and application domains and the ability to lead initiatives across complex enterprise environments
Bachelors degree in information technology computer science or engineering and ITIL v4 Foundation certification and certifications such as: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
