Job Description:
The Operations Project Engineer (OPE) is the technical bridge between Operations and Design Engineering whose charter is to solve Design/Manufacturing/Test issues that have Business level significance to reduce manufacturing/test risk and improve on-time delivery. The OPE accomplishes this through 2 primary avenues. The 1st is to assist in the design development & transition to production of new hardware. This is primarily accomplished by assessing design and manufacturing risk capability/capacity analysis Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA) or Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR) Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and participating in prototype and/or pilot line production. The 2nd is to provide life cycle engineering support to Products/Programs via improved manufacturability increased yields rework reduction DMS and obsolescence mitigation and/or new capability/technology introduction.
Essential Functions:
- Manage interface between Operations Program Management Design Engineering and Operations to assess risk and provide solutions.
- Perform Manufacturing Readiness Assessments using the DoD Manufacturing Readiness level (MRL) framework.
- Analyzes product/program maturity and assigns manufacturing readiness levels using the DoD MRL threads as a guideline.
- Create Manufacturing transition plans.
- Provide input into new production contract proposals for Operations
- Deliver professional written and verbal communication to both internal and external stakeholders including L3Harris customers
- Leads plans and conducts technical projects typically related to manufacturability product performance yields and process capability
- Develops technical specifications interface control documents manufacturing plans and procedures analyzes configuration and processing solutions and tests conformance to specifications
- Recommends new or improved design solutions and processes; reviews literature patents and current industry practices of relevance to assigned project
- Follows processes in conformance with established policies and objectives
- Participates in critical design reviews
- Actively participate in Failure Review Board (FRB) investigations and subsequent Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities.
- Partners with other organizations to create and execute improved manufacturing plans which drive measurable improvements to the portion of the Companys AOP that falls within this roles span of control.
- Support a culture of Continuous Improvement Right the First Time Safety First Audit Ready and Policy & Security Compliant.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelors degree & a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a Masters degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in ME EE IE or lieu of a degree a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Preferred additional skills
- Experience with wireless communication or similar systems and related system architecture hardware design integration and qualification.
- Required experience in product development (preferably in military application environments)
- Experience with engineering architecture and design concepts along with thorough understanding of the engineering practices and procedures required to develop test and deploy systems.
