BGMU is recruiting for a Substation Engineer to perform technical and semi-technical work involving the design operation and maintenance of the transmission substation and distribution facilities. Essential duties include:
- Participate in the overall planning operation maintenance and construction of substations.
- Provide technical support and make recommendations on operational technologies such as SCADA Distribution Automation AMI and other critical operation applications.
- Provide technical support for the maintenance testing and setup of substation equipment such as relays transformers circuit breakers capacitor banks regulators batteries etc.
- Make recommendations on system protection and reliability. Perform system coordination studies.
- Perform SCADA system programming.
- Assist and train line and operations personnel in substation procedures through regularly held safety sessions.
- Assist other areas of utility in areas of technical expertise as deemed necessary or as requested by management.
- Coordinates and oversees contractors when necessary.
- Will be required to participate in after-hours standby rotation periodically.
- Will be subject to emergency after-hours availability.
- Additional work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.
Requires a theoretical knowledge and the practical application of engineering graphics principles and practices as well as basic and intermediate electrical theory and mathematics safety rules and practices various codes and regulations and electric utility materials equipment and methods. Requires knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical operations of substation equipment. Requires the ability to perform engineering studies prepare comprehensive reports and make recommendations. Must have a general knowledge of electrical hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with an electrical transmission and distribution system. Ability to interface with BGMU’s Information Technology (IT) Department to effectively utilize computer and network resources in the support of operation and engineering activities. Ability to receive transmit and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power engineering. Working knowledge of telecommunications and computer networking fundamentals. Registered Professional Engineer. Two to five years work experience with an electric utility.
