Department Summary

The Daniels College of Business (DCB) of the University of Denver offers a variety of baccalaureate and graduate degree programs including a Bachelor of Science (DCB currently enrolls undergraduate students in nine majors: Accountancy Business Analytics Finance General Business Hospitality Management International Business Management Marketing and Real Estate and the Built Environment); Master of Business Administration (Denver MBA) Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) and an online Master of Business Administration () Master of Science in Accountancy Management Applied Quantitative Finance Business Analytics Real Estate and the Built Environment and Marketing as well as non-degree Executive Education and professional development programs. DCS supports approximately 1400 undergraduate 400 graduate students plus alumni of DCB. The primary areas of operation are in student-facing advisory roles and in employer-facing recruitment roles. The department operates under a cross-functional support model with Student Services Office of Graduate Admissions and Marketing and External Relations.

Position Summary

The University of Denver seeks an energetic talented and innovative career coach and advisor for a full-time Associate Director position in the Career Services office at the Daniels College of Business (DCS). The successful applicant will join a dedicated team that directly supports the career planning development and employment outcomes for the students and alumni of the college. Priority is placed on developing and facilitating innovative and ground-breaking strategies methodologies and programs that improve student and post-graduate employment outcomes. Daniels is ranked among the top business schools and is the only business school in Colorado to receive rankings and recognition from BusinessWeek the Financial Times U.S. News & World Report and Forbes.

Essential Functions

  • Works as a program lead or in a collaborative role on career management and professional development projects and programs; as a part of the overall team that creates and delivers professional development programs such as Daniels Professional Development Program Networking Interview Preparation Mentorship Programs Internship and Job Events Industry Career Panels Life & Career Design Employer Visits and Career Fairs.
  • Is responsible for coaching advising and meeting with individuals and small and large groups with a caseload of diverse undergraduate-level business students. Establishes a schedule of in-office and online appointments and provides walk-in advising for students and alumni.
  • Supervision of Assistant Director; complete performance reviews educate mentor and provide guidance and support to ensure success of individual and overall career services team.
  • Will be an enthusiastic and positive contributor in both individual and collaborative efforts to continuously test and build innovative and effective student engagement initiatives that drive toward improved employment outcomes.
  • Serve as a liaison between Daniels Career Services academic departments and program directors student organizations and the DU Career & Professional Development Center.
  • Collaborates with DCS Employer Relations and cross-functionally with other student-facing units in developing relevant career programming such as: orientation sessions skills workshops print and online resources for delivering career content to all Daniels students and alumni.
  • Will be responsible for developing current and relevant industry sector knowledge and expertise; be a liaison between the applicable academic departments sector employers and students exploring career opportunities within those sectors. Continuously develop and master industry best practices for recruiting and sourcing talent.
  • Will use email video conferencing social media and other forms of communication/marketing techniques to establish and build relationships with students promote Daniels Career Services programs and events encourage students to engage with the office track their employment progress and connect them with leads for internships and full-time career opportunities.
  • Will be a part of the team accountable for supporting the Daniels in Focus and DU IMPACT 2025 strategic plans and for increases in student and employer satisfaction and in increased employment opportunities for and employment rates of students.
  • The position is accountable to participate in the collection of data and outcome reporting to AACSB and NACE standards and guidelines for post-graduation outcomes.

Coach & Advise Students:

  • Work with both assigned and ad hoc groups of DCB students and alumni in all aspects of career planning and job search strategy.
  • Use career services tools and data entry platforms to track and report student career progress.
  • Communicate regularly with students marketing/reaching out to them as appropriate on regular schedule.
  • Develop and share both general and industry sector specific understanding of the related professions to help guide and inform student career paths.
  • Manage a student caseload that requires managing your time communicating and following-up with students.
  • Assist with collecting student employment data for internships and full time offers.

Career Program Management:

  • Serve as an instructor for professional development programming that can be delivered in the classroom or asynchronously.
  • Serve as project lead or co-lead on numerous student career preparation student engagement and employer relations programs.
  • Develop strong relationships with academic department chairs directors and faculty to facilitate the support of career and professional development activities and events.

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop deploy and manage strategic initiatives with the intended outcomes of improving student engagement and competencies industry connectivity and partnership opportunities.
  • Benchmark and assess the effectiveness of career services activities programs and resources through data collection and analysis.

Research and Marketing of Career Resources and Lead Generation:

  • Coordinate with Daniels Career Services staff to create and distribute up-to-date career services information relevant to current and prospective students and alumni.
  • Collaborate and communicate directly with employers alumni and corporate partners to create recruiting opportunities.
  • Engage with companies promoting hiring of students. Recommend specific companies and organizations to appropriate students and/or alumni.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of theoretical knowledge of higher education issues such as student development career counseling and the unique needs of non-traditional and students across a wide range of developmental stages or a broad understanding of careers typically pursued by business students and early career professionals and an in-depth understanding of the college recruiting process.
  • Ability to interact with corporate recruiters to facilitate the successful recruitment of students.
  • Excellent public speaking interpersonal verbal/written communication skills. This person must possess the ability to communicate as well as develop and maintain relationships with students from a wide variety of social ethnic and economic addition the position will interact with corporate representatives ranging from CEOs to new graduate business hires.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills including the ability to independently prioritize work handle multiple tasks simultaneously set goals and enforce deadlines while maintaining the flexibility to re-assess and prioritize goals.
  • Analytical critical thinking and reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to market and evaluate programs maintain accurate and detailed records work independently with little direct supervision and lead and/or participate on multiple team projects.
  • Computer literacy Zoom Slack Microsoft software: Word Excel Teams and PowerPoint.
  • May be required to attend events meetings and travel solo and with groups of students at various locations both on and off campus. Also will visit employers and alumni throughout the United States and possibly internationally. These tasks typically require the use of rental cars in cities around the United States.
  • Must be able to work with a high level of independence perform under pressure plan ahead by anticipating problems and forecasting outcomes and deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure. Must possess the professional presence and self-confidence to work with a wide range of students including undergraduate students mature graduate students alumni of the College and senior executives of corporations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 years of professional business experience focused on management product marketing and development operations analytics consulting or finance.
    • Overall experience should include at least three years of professional experience in a role with recruiting coaching or professional mentoring component.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with a preference for Business Administration. Masters degree is a strong plus.
  • At least 3 years of prior experience in a higher education and/or career services role or a similar level of professional experience with recruiting or executive search.
  • Experience in academic or curriculum planning/development
  • Experience with recruiting software programs.
  • Proficiency in database management/development.
  • Experience in budgeting/forecasting.
  • Active memberships in professional organizations and experience working and consulting with diverse populations.

Working Environment

  • Standard open office environment
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate

Physical Activities

  • Ability to use a computer for an extended period
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 accordance with the Universitys flexible work policy this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65000-$75000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
