Job Description

Position: Psychologist
Location: Correctional Facility in Susanville California
Pay Range: $144.64 to $146.64 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time 6 to 9 months with potential extension


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least twelve consecutive months of direct patient care experience within the past three years in a public or private institution
  • Active clinical competencies
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Active California Psychologist license (physical copy required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological care to inmates under the direction of the Senior Psychologist Supervisor or Chief of Mental Health
  • Supervise inmate-patient conduct while ensuring safety and maintaining facility order
  • Serve as clinician-of-the-day during scheduled shifts to address emergency cases
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments including psychological criminal and substance use history
  • Deliver crisis interventions one-on-one counseling and group psychotherapy sessions
  • Perform in-cell evaluations as needed which may require walking long distances or climbing stairs
  • Identify psychiatric symptoms and establish accurate diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Administer score and interpret a variety of psychological assessments
  • Create detailed clinical documentation including progress notes and treatment updates
  • Attend and contribute to Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings
  • Track patient progress using SOAPE-formatted notes
  • Conduct mental status exams (MSE) and review medical legal and psychological records
  • Build and maintain ties with community agencies programs and support services as assigned
  • Provide mental health education and develop resources for patients including sex offenders and those with chronic mental illness
  • Support inmates in applying for benefits such as SSI and accessing external programs
  • Analyze audit data related to mental health compliance and support administrative reporting
  • Release patient information to approved individuals with signed consent
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with inmates and their families to promote recovery
  • Represent the department at internal and external meetings related to mental health
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new treatment and rehabilitation programs
