The Learning Engagement Manager leads the development and execution of in-school programs and curriculum-based learning initiatives at Arena Stage. This position is central to building meaningful relationships with school districts principals educators and theaters across DC Maryland and Virginia while creating impactful grant-eligible programs and revenue-generating workshops that advance Arenas educational mission.
This role also oversees the DC Ticket Partnership Program which provides student matinees and engagement opportunities tied to Arenas mainstage season. The Learning Engagement Manager may serve as a teaching artist and director for Voices of Now Arena Stages nationally recognized devised-theater program and will work closely with the Learning Engagement Manager for Out-of-School Programs to create a cohesive and robust experience for youth participants.
Additionally this position collaborates with the Learning Programs Coordinator to manage the business and administrative operations of in-school programs including contract management payment processing and reporting.
BA/BFA/BS in Theater Education or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
3-5 years of experience as a middle or high school teacher college professor teaching artist or program administrator
Experience directing devising or developing original work with youth ensembles
Strong classroom and curriculum development experience with a working knowledge of state and federal education standards
Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills
Comfortable managing multiple projects and collaborating across departments
Familiarity with the DC Maryland and Virginia school systems is a plus
Current First Aid certification and ability to pass public school background checks
Programming and Curriculum Development:
Design and implement STEAM-integrated in-school workshops and residencies. Develop curriculum that supports diverse learners and aligns with state and federal standards. Serve as a director or co-director for Voices of Now ensembles. Create student learning guides and other educational resources. Build programs that support grant proposals and can be offered as fee-based services to schools and districts.
DC Ticket Partnership Program (Student Matinees):
Recruit and manage relationships with classroom teachers and principals. Plan and facilitate pre- and post-show learning experiences tied to Arenas mainstage productions. Collaborate with the Box Office on group logistics. Coordinate contracts orientations and student engagement. Track participation data and payments with the Learning Programs Coordinator.
Relationship & Partnership Development:
Build and maintain strong partnerships with public charter and private schools across the region. Collaborate with school district leaders and educators to co-design impactful programming. Represent Arena Stage at school community and civic events. Maintain relationships with local schools districts and educational partners to support and grow in-school programming.
Mentorship & Team Collaboration:
Mentor and supervise fellows and interns within the Learning Division. Work closely with the Learning Engagement Manager for Out-of-School Programs to ensure alignment across youth programming. Support cross-departmental initiatives and special projects as needed.
Business & Administration:
Collaborate with the Learning Programs Coordinator to manage contracts invoicing and program budgets. Ensure timely reporting and clear communication with business development and sales teams.
