Job Description
The Department of Languages Literatures and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking a Part-time Instructor to teach one 4-credit section(s) of Arabic I ( ARB 101) and/or Arabic III ( ARB 201) in the fall 2025 semester which begins on August 25 2025 (appointment begins on August 18 2025). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Arabic I ( ARB 101); 4 credits Introductory proficiency-based course which prepares students to understand speak read and write in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Arabic. Arabic III ( ARB 201); 4 credits Continuing proficiency-based course which refines and expands previously acquired linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Arabic. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per credit rate history within the hiring department. All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Responsibilities
It is understood that teaching assignments may include: Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. Preparation of lectures projects or other student assignments. Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class. Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes. Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Completing all other course related duties as outlined by your departments policies for part-time instructors. Building a positive rapport with the students and faculty.
Qualifications
Masters degree required. Native or near-native fluency required. Experience in university-level teaching preferred.
