Job Description
The Assistant Director of International Relations Advising will share advising of majors and minors for large undergraduate program as well as lead recruitment efforts for prospective students and majors including developing marketing materials in coordination with the Chair and IR Program Staff. The Assistant Director will serve as the lead coordinator on IR sponsored events including recruiting and guest speakers serve as the lead coordinator for IR related communications including newsletter and social media accounts and coordinate with the Chair and Teaching Faculty to provide support for Model UN Team IR Living and Learning Community and IR Clubs and Organizations. This position will coordinate with the Chair IR Program Staff and Teaching Faculty with course scheduling and curriculum development. The Assistant Director will also assist the Chair with developing and implementing initiatives to improve the student experience including speaker series and career academic and social events.
Responsibilities
Advising. Assist with advising majors (BA and BS years 1-2) and minors (Global Security Studies). Coordinate with CAS - MAX advising and Whitman advising for dual degree program as well as IR Living and Learning Community and admissions for first year students. Develop and Implement Student Experience Initiatives. Coordinate with the Chair Assistant Director and Teaching Faculty to provide support for Model UN Team IR Living and Learning Community and IR Clubs and Organizations. Undertake several new initiatives to improve the student experience to enhance the quality of the programs curriculum and academic offerings. Coordinate speaker series and professional development workshops including speakers logistics and publicity materials. Assist with Course Scheduling and Curriculum Development. Assist the Chair and IR Program staff with curriculum review and identify courses applicable to the majors and minors from affiliated faculty across the Maxwell School and the University including Syracuse Abroad offerings. Prepare reports on course enrollments; Maintain database of campus and off-campus course listings. Create and provide semester course lists for major and minors to students prior to registration. Schedule all IRP and cross-listed courses in PeopleSoft; Issue student-specific permission for registration as necessary. Maintain and update IR Program website and Answers pages with Course and Program information. Serve as the lead coordinator for IR related communications including newsletter social media accounts and listservs. Updates and maintenance of IR Program website; Revise and maintain publicity materials for program SU Abroad Maxwell-in-Washington. Manage IRComms@ email address. Coordinate and Lead Recruitment Activities. Coordinate with Chair IR Program staff and Admissions on recruitment activities. Participate in in-person and on-line recruitment events in coordination with Chair Admissions and IR Program Staff; Respond to inquiries from prospective students and University Admissions as required.
