Job Description

Pay Grade/Pay Range:Minimum: $48600 - Midpoint: $60800 (Salaried E7)

Department/Organization:204905 - Curation

Normal Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary:The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary:The Department of Museum Research and Collections at the University of Alabama seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for the NSF-funded project Energetic Controls on Marine Benthic Community Structure in Space and position will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Adiel Klompmaker.

This is a project in collaboration with colleagues and their students/postdoc at the Ohio State University (Dr. Jill Leonard-Pingel) the University of California Berkeley (Dr. Seth Finnegan) and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (Dr. Aaron ODea). One key component of this project is to assess biotic interactions such as predator-prey interactions using fossil and modern molluscan assemblages from both sides of the Isthmus of Panama. While the study will use pre-existing collections there is a trip to Panama included and there is conference support.

Initial appointment will be for one year with renewal contingent upon funding.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biology Paleontology Geology Ecology or similar field awarded prior to starting date.

Skills and Knowledge:Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with analyzing data in R. Experience studying biotic interactions as preserved in the fossil record. Experience with identifying late Cenozoic molluscs. Experience with assembling a database and data analyses. Experience with quantitative methods. Experience with supervising students. Published research in the peer-reviewed literature.
