Job Description

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking a Director IT Solution Architecture and Engineering who will be responsible for the overall JAX Mice Clinical and Research Services (JMCRS) architectural strategy best practices and software delivery standards software engineering and excellence. This role will ensure architectural integrity and excellence in software engineering achieving successful project outcomes through collaborative efforts with key team close partnership with JMCRS IT leadership the Director Solution Architecture and Engineering is tasked with ensuring that the solution architecture aligns to business needs and technical requirements driving the architecture through to execution via the software engineering Community of Practice (CoP).

This is a remote position based in the United States. The role requires up to 10% travel and adherence to a work schedule aligned with Eastern Standard Time (EST).

What Youll Contribute

  • Lead the architectural review for all work within the JMCRS software delivery portfolio partnering and educating Senior business leadership on industry standard problem solving.
  • Establish define and foster architectural software engineering standards best practices and ways of working - identifying and executing opportunities to optimize our current process.
  • Define and drive a Software Engineering community of practice establishing the gold standard for Software Engineering and driving standardization across JAX.
  • Establish and lead the Architecture Review Board (ARB) process to socialize and decision mission-critical IT projects prior to implementation inclusive of other architecture roles at JAX.
  • Evaluate current application footprint and develop strategy to rationalize & simplify application portfolio developer tooling.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends emerging technologies and best practices and apply this knowledge to drive innovation within the organization; orchestrating Proof of Value (POVs) as applicable.
  • Recommend and own best fit technology for given business problems identifying commodity vs. differentiating capabilities and providing direction on the buy vs. build decision.
  • Partner with Networking Security Infrastructure Change Management and other dependent organizations to ensure alignment of architecture and delivery across the organization.
  • Help practice members solve complex technical problems within and outside of team & Identify opportunities for the practice and roles to evolve for the betterment of the organization.
  • Foster a strong culture of coaching and mentoring of direct reports helping individuals develop their skills and achieve their professional goals and career growth.
  • Educate internal and external IT personnel on the practices standards guidelines & best practices goals and output.
  • Assess CoP talent in relation to teams assisting agile delivery teams to optimize their composition; identify training and continuous improvement opportunities.

What Youre Good At

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Business or a related field. A Masters degree or MBA is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience with 12 years preferred. 6 years of supervisory experience with 8 years preferred. 5-10 years of software delivery expertise.
  • Extensive experience in technical architecture and strategic delivery with a proven track record of leading and delivering successful technology projects.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce (or applicable CRM application) and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (or other ERP).
  • Experience implementing an API management (APIM) infrastructure introducing interconnectivity and loosely coupled core platforms.
  • Deep understanding of technology solutions engineering and architectural processes best practices.
  • Experience leading small to large projects of varying complexity.
  • Ability to influence and foster buy-in at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills: verbal written listening to various levels across the organization.
  • Ability to gain a broad understanding of overall software delivery roadmaps and related strategies.
  • Knowledge of Agile Frameworks preferably Scrum and/or SAFe.

The salary range is $136461- $228467. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
