Job Description

Description

Thompson Rivers University is seeking one or two sessional faculty members who will teach one section of EDSL4200: Second Language Secwepemc in our Bachelor of Education program in Fall of 2025. The anticipated start date is September 23 2025. Strong candidates will have extensive Indigenous knowledge in relation to culture and learning and have teaching experience in K-12 and post-secondary settings.

Calendar Description:

This introductory course presents an overview of instructional and assessment strategies as it relates to promoting and learning a second language. Teacher candidates learn about proficiency-based instruction and the meaning of language competence. They create and teach lessons using French or Secwepemctsin. Teacher candidates develop their skills in assessment for learning as learning and of learning as it applies in a language classroom. They also learn about technology-based resources activities and projects available for the language classroom.



Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Education is required.
  • Master of Education is required; PhD or EdD is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) degree in education is required.
  • Expertise in K-12 education in British Columbia is required.
  • Three (3) years of outstanding full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal teamwork and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) required.
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) required.
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) required.
