Summary of Job Duties:

The Licensing Associate will represent University of Arkansas Technology Ventures in working with faculty staff students patent counsel and industry including start-ups to promote technology commercialization. The Licensing Associate will screen evaluate and triage intellectual property disclosures prepare a Technology Assessment Report on each disclosure and facilitate the decision of which inventions and works to pursue. The Licensing Associate is responsible for meeting with inventors and creators of intellectual property actively researching the current state of the art and market potential of the technology or work and presenting intellectual property to the Patent and Copyright Committee. The Licensing Associate will develop new and/or maintain current internal and external marketing strategies including developing and maintain strong positive relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external industry partners. Internal marketing will be used to market Technology Ventures expertise and services to faculty staff and students as well as internally scout and solicit new invention disclosures while external marketing efforts will be targeted towards third parties for licensing and research collaboration. External marketing efforts include preparing non-confidential summaries of each intellectual property disclosure and actively reaching out to third parties to present technologies that are available for licensing. The Licensing Associate will provide continuous management of existing invention disclosures and technologies in our electronic knowledge management system and work with faculty staff and students to submit new invention disclosures. The Licensing Associate will develop and maintain strong positive relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external industry partners. The Licensing Associate will identify new industry partners for licensing and collaboration. The Licensing Associate will negotiate and prepare for execution intellectual property agreements which include agreements such as options licenses confidentiality agreements material transfer agreements and interinstitutional agreements. The Licensing Associate will actively present educational seminars to faculty staff and students in various forums to educate and promote an understanding of intellectual property and technology commercialization. This position performs other duties as needed and assigned.

Regular reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education in biological sciences physical sciences computation engineering or related field with a broad technical knowledge base

  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA MS JD and/or PhD

  • Patent agent/attorney in good standing with the USPTO

  • Certified licensing professional (CLP)

  • Registered Technology Transfer Professional

  • At least two years of experience working in technology transfer or intellectual property management at a university company or national research laboratory

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of US intellectual property laws

  • Excellent oral written communication and analytical skills

  • Skilled in intellectual property evaluation

  • Skilled in market analysis

  • Skilled in marketing intellectual property

  • Skilled in negotiating intellectual property agreements

  • Skilled in using research and software tools to identify innovations related to intellectual property

  • Flexibility with changes in environment and role


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position availability of funding and satisfactory job performance.


Salary Information:

$86355.00 commensurate with education and experience
