Job Description

Position Overview:

A Northview Public Schools band instructor is responsible for leading a comprehensive instrumental music program for students in grades 5 through 12. The primary goal is to cultivate a passion for music enhance students technical and ensemble performance skills and provide meaningful opportunities for artistic expression through band. The instructor should have a strong command of music theory demonstrate proficiency in instrumental performance and conducting and possess the ability to effectively motivate engage and challenge musicians.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification: Certification with a music Education Endorsement (JX or JQ)
  • Ability to work well with students with different needs and learning styles
  • Ability to plan prescriptively to meet the academic and behavioral needs of each student
  • A high level of musicianship
  • Understanding of preadolescent and adolescent learning differences
  • Previous experience in teaching band
  • Experience in and training in Music Learning Theory (MLT) including singing accurately in an instrumental classroom
  • Advanced instrumental training that includes a deep knowledge of woodwind pedagogy
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a music team and a multi-disciplinary team of

professionals focused on student growth expression and achievement.

  • Familiarity of technology as a teaching tool in the instrumental classroom
  • Highest level of integrity and professionalism both in and out of the classroom
  • Experience in all areas of instrumental performance including Solo and Ensemble Festival and

Band Festival literature Jazz Marching Band and community outreach

  • Ability to nurture teenage leaders who will function well working with a variety of people both in and after high school
  • Ability to work on and be a contributor to a collaborative team and department
  • Understanding of a learning styles approach to instruction and a respect for students multiple

  • Conducting skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize plan and organize events and activities
  • Recruit new students to the program
  • Maintain music budget and attend Band Booster meetings
  • Recruit new Band Boosters
  • Hire necessary musicians for rehearsals clinics and performances
  • Grow the music program by providing additional opportunities
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively and work closely with students parents colleagues and administrative staff
  • Ability to foster trust and respect to bring out the best in students musically and otherwise

Terms:

  • Evaluated annually
  • Supervised by the building principal
  • Follows Northview Educator Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Position is posted until filled
