Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Financial Services (SFS) the Student Financial Services Counselor is an integral member of the SFS team responsible for assisting the office with financial aid position will provide financial aid counseling to students and families with the primary responsibility of managing an alpha-split caseload that includes financial aid applicants and current students.
Responsibilities
Guide students and parents throughout the financial aid application. Advise on eligibility requirements policies/procedures and financing/payment options.
Review financial aid applications for new and returning students perform needs analysis complete federal verification exercise professional judgment and determine aid eligibility.
Assist students and families in understanding their student accounts and the billing/payment process.
Maintain knowledge and stay current on constantly evolving federal state and institutional policies/regulations.
Participate in on-campus and off-campus outreach efforts to promote Vassar and its place in the higher education community.
Assist with general office functions such as answering phone calls responding to emails and greeting visitors.
Participate in efforts to streamline and improve office procedures document processing and communications. Assist in developing new and updating existing communications and marketing efforts (i.e. website email notifications publications).
Participation in various professional organizations to enhance professional development attend conferences/trainings and NYS regional meetings.
Collaborate with other departments to provide a coordinated approach in supporting student financial needs.
Manage federal state and private financial aid programs (i.e. grants loans outside scholarships)
Required knowledge skills and abilities
Bachelors degree
Excellent interpersonal skills oral and written communication and customer service orientation in a technical environment
An ability to set work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrate understanding of the emotional nature of discussions related to finances and complicated family dynamics
Ability to exercise discretion and maintain professional demeanor
Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical skills needed and an ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
Knowledge of and expertise with financial aid systems is required
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Demonstrated knowledge working with federal tax documents
Experience with financial aid needs analysis (Institutional Methodology preferably)
Preferred knowledge skills and abilities
Experience with PowerFAIDS
One to two years of progressive experience with Title IV programs
Compensation
The starting annual base salary range for this position is $60405.80-$69000(USD)

The starting salary range represents the Colleges good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
