Standard CBWS Hourly Rate ($15/hr). This position is subject to an annual wage increase.

Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
Reading Partners is a national nonprofit that works to expand life opportunities for students who need additional support in building strong literacy skills. We do so by collaborating with elementary schools and community members to deliver data-driven one-on-one tutoring to students during the school day hours. We provide ongoing training and an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books and materials needed for an effective lesson. There is also an on-site staff member that readily answers questions and helps tutors and students work through the lessons.
We seek federal work study literacy tutors on an ongoing basis during the academic year to assist with tutoring. Learn more about the Reading Partners tutoring model here!

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one with K-5 students reading below grade level using the structure Reading Partners literacy curriculum
- Assisting in running the tutoring center including substitute tutoring and offering support to new volunteer tutors
- Assisting in progress monitoring and preparing materials for the program implementation
- Able to commit between 4-20 hours/week for a minimum of one semester (if starting in fall commitment to the entire school year is preferred. Students may still apply if they will be studying abroad/away during JTerm).

- Willingness and eagerness to learn tutoring strategies
- Demonstrates patience and empathy for students while holding high expectations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups
- Ability to commit to a schedule and show up promptly when expected
