Journeyman Software Quality Assurance Engineer and Tester

Location: Remote (with potential travel to client sites)

Clearance Required: Active IRS MBI Clearance (No substitutes)

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

About the Role

Trigent Solutions is seeking a Journeyman Software Quality Assurance Engineer and Tester to support the IRS Enterprise Systems Testing (EST) program delivering Performance Engineering Test Automation and Quality Assurance services for tax administrative and financial applications.

In this role you will execute functional integration regression and performance testing using established test plans and automation tools. Working closely with senior QA engineers developers and IRS personnel you will help ensure that enterprise applications meet rigorous quality performance and compliance standards. This position is ideal for a QA professional with solid testing experience who is looking to deepen their skills in automation performance testing and enterprise platforms while contributing to mission-critical federal systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute manual and automated functional integration regression and performance tests.
  • Develop and maintain test cases test scripts and test data for assigned features and modules.
  • Document test results and defects ensuring accurate tracking and resolution.
  • Assist in performance testing using tools such as JMeter and Rational Performance Tester (RPT).
  • Support test automation initiatives under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Perform database validation and back-end testing using Oracle DB2 or SQL Server.
  • Participate in peer reviews defect triage meetings and follow-up testing.
  • Support onboarding of new testers and contribute to team training and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Ensure adherence to standardized testing procedures and suggest process improvements where applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Active IRS MBI Clearance (mandatory; no substitutions).
  • U.S. Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering Business or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in software quality assurance infrastructure or systems testing.
  • Experience executing test cases analyzing results and documenting outcomes using enterprise test management tools.
  • Familiarity with test automation tools such as Selenium JMeter LoadRunner or Rational Performance Tester (RPT).
  • Experience with relational databases: Oracle DB2 or SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
  • Exposure to enterprise platforms including Windows Linux UNIX and mainframe systems.
  • Ability to follow standardized test processes and contribute to process improvements.

  • Collaboration & Mentorship Works effectively within a team and supports onboarding of junior testers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility testing and assistive tools (e.g. JAWS ZoomText).
  • Experience supporting automation framework enhancements and test coverage expansion.
  • Knowledge of performance monitoring tools (Splunk AIX OEM).
  • Exposure to enterprise scheduling tools (Control-M OpCon).
  • Experience with ETL tools (Informatica) and data masking technologies (IBM Infosphere Optim).
  • Knowledge of test data management tools such as CA Test Data Manager (CA-TDM).
  • Ability to contribute to documentation SOPs and training materials.
