Job Description
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Student ServicesGeneral Responsibilities: On-call substitute for Service Dog Handler. Handles and cares for a students service dog during the school day. There are three purposes of the service dog for the student: seizure alert and response deep pressure and behavior interruption. Training will be provided for this : Experience working with studentsExperience around dogs Must obtain dog handler training. Training will be providedProven record of reliability Good communication skills Patience Ability to maintain confidentiality Performance Responsibilities: Instruct and receive signals from the students service dog as it relates to the students disabilityMaintain control and physical responsibility of service dog during the school dayImplements the tool of the service dog for seizure alert and response deep pressure and behavior interruptionProvides necessary care for the students service dog during the school day including but not limited to toileting feeding and watering Maintains the service dog on a leash when in school or public settingTakes service dog to identified area for toileting as needed Cleans up any mess the service dog makes and disposes of waste properly Ensures service dog wears identifying equipment Ensures service dog has adequate food and water breaks as required Maintains appropriate proximity to student owner at all times Liaisons with the student owners parent or designee on issues related to the care of the service dog and transfer of custody at the beginning and end of the school dayEnsures the safety of the student owners service dog and the school community while in school on school grounds and on school transportation Maintains confidentiality of all Franklin Public School students educational process and records including that of the service dogs student ownerCommunicates any issues to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
