Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations the Facilities Electrician is responsible for the installation repair and maintenance of the electrically powered systems. The electrician will also assist with various general maintenance related tasks including plumbing painting trades and grounds keeping. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in electrical work hold a Journeyman Electrician certification and have a strong understanding of venue power systems and event-related electrical needs.

This position will support the University of Houston Athletics departments goal of providing operational excellence through consistent cost effective and reliable maintenance and service. This position performs work that involves troubleshooting repairing installing connecting and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings utilized by the Athletics Department student-athletes donors and the public. Core responsibilities include exemplary customer service to internal and external constituents by performing maintenance of electrical components scoreboards videoboards game controls equipment sound systems and any other electrical devices that support athletics events in the departments venues.

This role pays an hourly rate of $31.25-$38.46

Responsibilities

  • Installmaintain and repair electrical systems wiring and equipment throughout the athletic complexes.
  • Assist in all services and activities involved in the maintenance of the facility including HVAC electrical mechanical and plumbing equipment.
  • Complete work orders in awell-established preventative maintenance system for the facility and all equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues during events to minimize disruptions and ensure seamless operations.
  • Record and log all work performed and compile all required reports ina timelyand complete manner.
  • Collaborate with facility management and external vendors on large-scale electrical projects and upgrades.
  • Serves as a main contact to contracted vendors for electrical services and repairsinvolving the stadium TVs ribbon boards and jumbotron.
  • Maintainelectrical equipment and systems and make recommendations for maintenance.
  • Maintaineffective working relationships with clients employees exhibitors patronsand othersencounteredduringemployment.
  • Serve asa teamrepresentative for the athletic complexes when scheduledaslead for assigned events.
  • Distributes and picks-up power drops as needed.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers motors and lighting fixtures and replace damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with Supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays switches motors and positions sensing devices.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards.
  • Replaces electric motor bearings rewires motors.
  • Plans layout of high and low voltage wiring and installs wiring conduit and electrical apparatus in athletic complexes.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment ensure all electrical workcomplies withlocal state and national electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Assist other Operation Department divisions to expedite event conversions as needed.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on venue power distribution systems generators and backup power sources.
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings days evenings holidaysandextended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed.
  • Frequent bending carrying moving climbing working from variousheightslifting 50 poundssitting exposure to moderate to loud noisesandextensive walking through the building.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The individual must possess the following knowledge skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Required 5years of firsthand electrical experience preferably in large venues stadiums convention centersor an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrical; Master Electrician License ishighly preferred.
  • Strongelectrical systems generators lighting controls and power distribution knowledge.
  • Experience working with concertsorlive-eventproduction power needs is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with maintenance and repair of electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints schematics and technical drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • You musthold a valid Drivers License.
  • Understand the methods principles and practicesrequiredforoperatingand maintainingmechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to operate monitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) using the 24/7 Work Order System Windows Microsoft Office software and email.
  • Familiarity with general maintenance operational procedures facility capabilities industry terminology event-related servicesand technical requirements foranticipatedeventsispreferred.
  • Possess any licenses certificates or training required by local stateor national authoritiestooperatethe equipment found in the facility.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to all safety precautions building codes rules regulations risk managementand emergency procedures.
  • Ability tooperatemonitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) using 24/7 Work Order System Windows and Microsoft Office software E-mail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends nights and holidays required
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Requires an Electrical Journeymans or Masters License.
  • A valid drivers license required.
