General Description / Primary Purpose:

The ERP Applications Engineer II under the direction of a manager or above assists in the design development and implementation software and integrations to support departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective technical coordination of departmental programs.

Job Function:

Deliver technical support for University ERP systems including troubleshooting complex issues across systems data management business-to-business integrations and assistance with business process improvements and enhancements.

Design build test and implement custom apps integrations and enhancements for ERP especially Workday Financials HCM and Student modules.

Develop and maintain APIs data pipelines data modeling reporting and automation scripts to support cross-system integrations.

Conduct business process analysis and recommend improvements that leverage technology to drive efficiency and value; consolidate and present findings to stakeholders and executives utilizing industry-standard methodologies.

Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams data models and user guides.

Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and document requirements define use cases and translate them into technical specifications.

Participate in Agile/Scrum-based projects and contribute to sprint planning backlog grooming and retrospectives.

Collaborate with QA and business users to develop and execute test plans.

Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend tools or frameworks that enhance system capabilities.

During declared campus emergencies this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Marginal Functions:

Provide IT professional guidance and mentorship to junior staff.

Analyze work requests and break them down into manageable parts to estimate schedules and provide time estimates.

Proficiency in defining and researching IT and business-related issues and formulating effective IT solutions to address them.

Ability to identify IT incidents resolve issues and communicate status and solutions clearly to clients.

Research software functionality create testing scenarios and conduct feature testing.

The capability to efficiently fulfil service requests.

Departmental Requirements:

An ERP Applications Engineer II will be expected to have intermediate experience with database query building and programming with common DBMS such as MSQL using database query languages such as SQL for query building and tuning.

An ERP Applications Engineer II is expected to possess experience in technologies and skills including but not limited to: UI and UX design web service APIs (RESTful and SOAP) JavaScript HTML CSS Boomi SQL Server (with particular emphasis on SSIS and SSRS) data transport with SFTP and Azure Data Engineering toolsets. Familiarity with various data file formats including JSON XML/XSLT and character delimited files is also required as well as proficiency with Linux commands and BASH/ksh scripting.

An ERP Applications Engineer II should have experience with one of the following tools: Visual Studio Eclipse IDE SQL Server Management Studio and Postman.

An ERP Applications Engineer II will have experience developing for integrating with and supporting one or more of the following ERP platforms:

Workday HCM Financials Planning and Student

Reporting business objects data model integration toolsets

An ERP Applications Engineer II may be required to work with various cloud-based development platforms such as Cayuse Azure DevOps ServiceNow Microsoft Office 365 Copilot and/or Slate. Experience with these platforms is considered an asset.

Supervision Received:

Minimal supervision of a verbal and/or written nature. Supervisor ensures that person in this position is aware of and adheres to state University and departmental policies standards and procedures.

Level of Public Contact:

Minimal external moderate internal. Person in position meets with various University personnel and serves on intra-institutional groups and committees as required. May occasionally meet with vendors representatives.

Policy-making and/or Interpretation:

Formulates and recommends to higher management policies and procedures required to provide efficient and effective software applications support to the divisions technology customers.

Program Direction and Development:

Advises higher management regarding current trends in application development.
