Job Description

Summary
The Packaging Mechanic diagnoses packaging equipment problems repairs minor and major breakdown of high-speed packaging equipment sets up and installs all packaging equipment performs preventative maintenance items improves line efficiencies and ensures all equipment is in safe working condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up operate and maintain food packaging equipment such as form-fill-seal machines labelers cartoners case packers and conveyors.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and minor electrical issues to ensure consistent line operation and product flow.
- Adjust machine settings to meet packaging specifications including product size weight and labeling requirements.
- Ensure packaging operations meet food safety standards including allergen control GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP protocols.
- Clean and sanitize packaging equipment regularly to meet hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Monitor packaging integrity including seal quality label accuracy and proper coding (e.g. expiration dates).
- Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement.
- Document maintenance activities equipment performance and downtime incidents in compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Support efficient changeovers ensuring machines are configured correctly for new product runs while minimizing waste and delays.
- Maintain a clean safe and organized work area adhering to plant safety and 5S principles.

Other Information
- Experience with hydraulics pneumatics and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.
- Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory and represent the knowledge skill and/or ability required. - Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high precarious places.
- Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
