Job Description

TITLE OF POSITION:

Sub Separate ASD Special Education Teacher

LOCATION:

Orleans Elementary School

DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT

OF POSITION:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional material to meet students varying needs and interests
  • Provide ABA therapy as directed by a BCBA
  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects as well as social emotional and life skills
  • Utilize a variety of sensory-friendly teaching tools and techniques
  • Create a structured and predictable classroom environment
  • Collaborate with special education staff speech therapists other professionals and BCBA Consultants
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of students progress and behavior
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to autism and special education
  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers to provide support and resources
  • Experience with de-escalation strategies and willingness to be Safety Care Trained
  • Ability to provide support and guidance to paraeducators to work towards students IEP goals and objectives

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Massachusetts Certification in Elementary Education in Severe Special Needs
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum
  • Familiarity with various autism-specific teaching strategies and interventions
  • Strong understanding of sensory processing issues and accommodations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with assistive technology and communication devices
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques
  • Ability to create and maintain a structured learning environment
  • Ability to modify curriculum to meet individual student needs
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

SALARY:

Per prevailing contract
