Job Description
Essential Functions (Responsibilities/Accountabilities)
Collects tests and stores blood and blood products; administers transfusion products and maintains records of transfusions. Performs all other transfusion procedures up to releasing blood products to nursing staff.
Following the Laboratory Procedures obtains blood specimens collects other body fluids and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
Performs required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells coagulation studies and quality control.
Performs chemical tests on body fluids and exudates tests urine and examines urine sediment for various types of cell bodies. Processes chemical tests on blood serum and plasma using the different analyzers.
Perform routine serological tests on body fluids and materials such as blood exudates scrapings and spinal fluid to ascertain pathogenic qualities.
Teach MLT students and other employees testing techniques.
Participates actively in continuing education and presents in-service programs.
