The Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership is responsible for developing supporting evaluating and retaining highly effective school principals. This district-level leader will guide principals in building the capacity of their leadership teams to improve teaching and learning through supervision coaching evaluation and professional development.
The Assistant Superintendent will coordinate instructional and operational support for principals by leading cross-functional teams that include Teaching and Learning Special Education Student Culture and Family and Community Engagement. This role is also accountable for leading aligning and assessing system-wide initiatives and programs that directly impact assigned schools.
Additionally the Assistant Superintendent will work closely with departments responsible for school operations and safety to ensure consistent implementation of district policies initiatives and procedures. Serving as a critical liaison among school leaders district staff senior leadership and community stakeholders the Assistant Superintendent must be a visionary instructional leader capable of navigating the complexities of an urban public school system during times of change.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a deep belief in every students potential to achieve at high levels and possess the ability to collaborate with diverse partners to lead transformative equity-driven change both within schools and across the broader community.
This position reports directly to the superintendent and serves as a member of the executive team.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles practices and procedures of school administration; comprehensive knowledge of personnel and administrative practices in-depth knowledge of accountability assessment and instruction; excellent written and oral communications skills; ability to maintain an effective working relationship with School Committee members school and central office administrators teachers and support staff; ability to conceptualize initiate deploy monitor and evaluate new or existing programs.
Masters Degree in School Administration; doctoral degree preferred. A minimum of five years of school leadership experience with a record of proven success. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
DESE license Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent required.
Highly diverse and complex duties. Must have high tolerance for change and the ability to work on several projects and assignments concurrently. Strong interpersonal skills required in working with diverse groups. Must have initiative and assume responsibility for working productively with minimal supervision.
Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a busy office environment; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.

Salary Range: $175000-$190000 Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
