About the Opportunity
Job Summary:
The Print Media and DesignTechnicianwill assist with the day-to-day operations of the photography studios digital print lab computer graphics lab and equipment checkout(and other makerspacesas needed)on the Oakland campus. This position reports to the Makerspace Manager of Design. They will assist with the installation maintenance and instruction for safe use of all equipment technology and machinery in a digital and analog print setting. This includes manual and digital photographic processes black and white photodarkrooms and studios digital fine art printing (large and small format) risograph duplicator UV printing and more.
This position will assist in the coordination and training of a team of student staff to supervise all open hours of the photo print media and design facilities. They will directly supervise open hours Monday-Friday. They will conduct safety trainings and orientations on print media and designskills both in response to curricular and extra-curricular needs. They will work closely with the Oakland Makerspace Director and Makerspace Manager of Designto ensure all practices aresafe and in compliance with university and governmental requirements. They will frequently work with faculty staff and students as necessary for effective operation of equipment and software as well as for instruction course projects and research. They will assist with equipment repair and/or schedule repair and maintenance of equipment. This is a student-facing role so they must be available during classes for problem solving and training faculty staff and students as appropriate. They will provide support to departments for special events that rely on theMakerspace infrastructure. They will work with the Makerspace Manager of Design to track and update shop inventory. This is a 32 hour/week position with some evening and weekend availability required.
Qualifications:
Preferred Education and Work Experience:
Bachelors degree in Art Practice Photography Graphic Design Architecture of other related field with 3-5 years of relevant experience in an educational environment.
Experience with most photography and digital print equipment is essential as is a strong desire to acquire new skills and expertise.
The candidate must have strong problem-solving organization and communication skills a resolute orientation to safety practices and be able to work independently.
The ability to lift 30 lbs. is a necessity.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suit Microsoft 365 Camera RAW software is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Darkroom Digital Lab Equipment Cage Checkouts and waste management operations. Assist with the installation instruction maintenance repair and safe use of all equipment technology and machinery in Building F. Develop check out a return policies for photographic and other equipment with constituents across campus. (35%)
Conduct safety trainings orientations and workshops on foundational and intermediate-level skills in response to curricular and extra-curricular needs. (20%)
Assist in the management coordination scheduling and training of a team of student staff to supervise all open hours of facilities and personally supervise weekly open hours. (20%)
Edit refine and create instructional content to support the NEU Oakland community in the areas of analog and digital photography print media and design. (15%)
Assist with or make updates to safety policies shop inventories and compliance documentation. (10%)
