About the Role
The Editor is responsible for ensuring the clarity consistency and overall quality of monitoring reports. This includes reviewing draft documents for grammar readability and compliance with formatting standards established by the Office of Head Start (OHS). Special attention is given to maintaining uniform language and structure across all sections particularly in findings and citations. The Editor works closely with Review Team Leads and Reviewer Consultants to resolve unclear content and incorporate recommended edits.
The role also involves maintaining editing checklists and managing document versioning to ensure traceability throughout the review process. Additionally the Editor monitors editing workflows by tracking queues and aligning with report delivery deadlines to ensure timely submission of final products. They also contribute to the ongoing refinement of report templates and editing procedures in collaboration with monitoring content developers.

How You Contribute to the Team:
Content Review and Editing
Review draft monitoring reports for clarity grammar and compliance with OHS formatting standards.
Ensure consistency in language and structure across all report sections especially in findings and citations.
Quality Assurance
Collaborate with Review Team Leads and Reviewer Consultants to clarify unclear findings or recommended edits.
Maintain editing checklists and document versioning to ensure traceability.
Workflow Management
Track editing queues and coordinate with report delivery deadlines to ensure timely submission of final products.
Help refine report templates and editing processes in collaboration with monitoring content developers
Perform these and other reasonable tasks as assigned by management in support of BCTs goals and objectives.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelors degree in English Communications Journalism or a related field is ideal though additional years of comparable and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Masters degree or professional editing certification (e.g. ACES Poynter) desired.
Experience Requirements:
3 years of professional editing and proofreading experience in a structured or compliance-focused environment is required; 7 years is required without a degree.
Experience editing formal reports technical documents or federally funded program materials strongly preferred.
Prior work in education child development government oversight or public policy settings is also a plus.
Skills and Expertise:
Exceptional command of English grammar syntax punctuation and style.
Strong editing skills with a focus on clarity consistency tone and alignment with institutional formatting guidelines.
Strong organizational skills and experience managing editing workflows queues and document versioning.
Able to meet strict deadlines while upholding high standards of quality and consistency.
Familiar with using style guides such as APA Chicago Manual of Style or federal-specific templates.
Able to identify and highlight opportunities for process improvements and contribute to editing tools and template modifications.
Proficiency with computer Internet Microsoft Office (Outlook Excel and PowerPoint)and must be well versed in Microsoft Word including track changes commenting features and version control.
Familiar with SharePoint or similar workflow tools
Proficient with video meetings/conferencing (e.g. Zoom Adobe Connect MS Teams)
Communication:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to support cross-functional teams
Ability to communicate clearly and collaboratively with diverse teams grant recipients and other stakeholders.
Clear written and spoken communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under tight deadlines.
Must be able to communicate collaborate and interact with colleagues in a remote work environment; must participate in virtual meetings appear on camera as needed and contribute to meeting content as required.
Ability to adapt quickly to new applications.
Able to meet job requirements while working in a remote work environment.
There are multiple factors considered in determining final pay for a position including but not limited to relevant work experience skills certifications and competencies that align with the specified role geographic location education as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that for this position includes a base salary between $80000 and $95000 along with a generous benefits package. This is a remote position located in the fifty United States or Washington DC. This Project
Head Start (HS) is a national program that provides comprehensive child development services primarily to low-income children and their families and includes Early Head Start (EHS) Migrant and Seasonal Head Start (MSHS) as well as American Indian/Alaska Native (AIAN) programs.
The Head Start program is administered by the Office of Head Start (OHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Head Start Act and OHS require periodic monitoring and review of all federally funded Head Start programs to ensure adherence to Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and regulations. This project is responsible for the monitor review scheduling team deployment and management travel planning and logistics content area expertise conducting reviews and monitoring report drafting.
