Position Summary: The Strategic Capacity Procurement Manager is responsible for building and executing long-term procurement strategies that ensure reliable cost-effective transportation capacity across the organizations core lanes. This role will lead carrier relationships contract negotiations and performance management while closely partnering with cross-functional teams to align capacity strategies with business objectives and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Carrier Strategy & Relationships:
Develop and maintain long-term partnerships with core carriers to secure consistent high-quality capacity.
Identify and onboard high-performing carriers that meet compliance insurance and performance standards.
Mitigate risk through carrier diversification and maintaining backup coverage for high-risk or critical lanes. Contracting & Negotiations:
Negotiate strategic pricing and capacity agreements to meet budget goals margin targets and customer expectations.
Support RFP responses by providing lane-level insights and capacity intelligence.
Collaboration & Alignment:
Partner with Sales Operations and Customer teams to ensure carrier strategies align with service requirements and operational goals.
Participate in strategic planning sessions to ensure procurement supports scalability profitability and customer satisfaction.
Performance Management & Analytics
Monitor carrier performance (on-time delivery service failures cost efficiency) and use data to drive continuous improvement.
Coordinate with Technology and Analytics teams to enhance visibility and reporting for proactive capacity planning.
Process Optimization:
Continuously evaluate and improve procurement processes to drive cost savings service improvements and scalability.
Leverage digital freight platforms and internal tools to streamline and automate sourcing and procurement activities.
Qualifications:
5 years in transportation procurement logistics or freight brokerage with a focus on identifying growing and maintaining a 3rd party carrier network
Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
Experience with digital freight platforms and TMS systems
Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze performance metrics and make informed decisions
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
