QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with a preferred endorsement in Special Education. A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the belief that all students can learn and succeed. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential as is a record of excellent attendance and professionalism. Knowledge of best instructional practices ethical standards established by the Virginia Board of Education and a positive collaborative approach with students families and colleagues are required. This position demands flexibility reliability and the ability to work in diverse learning environments including homes and virtual settings.
DESCRIPTION:
The Homebound/Homebased Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction to K12 students who are temporarily unable to attend school due to medical behavioral or other approved circumstances. Instruction may be provided in person at the students home or virtually depending on the students needs. The teacher ensures continuity of learning facilitates academic progress aligned with the students regular instructional program and collaborates with school staff and families to support successful student outcomes. This full-time role requires flexibility strong organizational skills and a student-centered mindset.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed):
SUPERVISION:
This position operates under the supervision of the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel. The teacher may also collaborate with other instructional leaders classroom teachers and school-based staff.
WORK CONDITIONS:
This position may involve travel to students homes school settings or community-based locations. Instruction may also be delivered virtually as needed. The role requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student needs which may include evening hours. Physical demands are generally light and may include periods of sitting walking standing and carrying instructional materials. The teacher must provide their own transportation. Situations involving students or families under stress may require calm empathetic communication and sound judgment.
