Job Description

Nuclear Safety Engineer Job Avonmouth

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nuclear Safety Engineer to join a major new nuclear fuels manufacturing project located in Avonmouth. This senior-level position is central to the development and implementation of nuclear safety cases and regulatory compliance within a state-of-the-art facility designed to support the future of nuclear power generation in the United Kingdom.

The Nuclear Safety Engineer Avonmouth will support the Safety and Licensing Manager by taking ownership of key safety case documentation guiding technical and engineering teams and working closely with regulators to ensure all standards are met during the construction and commissioning phases.

Key Responsibilities Nuclear Safety Engineer Avonmouth:

  • Develop and maintain project-wide safety case methodologies tailored to the hazards and complexity of the facility.

  • Lead the creation of the Preliminary Safety Report (PSR) and Pre-Construction Safety Report (PCSR) authoring technical specifications and defining assessment scope.

  • Coordinate with technical specialists across engineering design and operations to compile input data for robust safety documentation.

  • Identify and advise on Safety Features Devices Systems and Circuits (SFDSC) critical to nuclear safety.

  • Manage processes for HAZIDs HAZOPs Design Reviews and other hazard analyses.

  • Author detailed safety assessments and provide expert nuclear safety advice to senior stakeholders.

  • Represent the project in engagements with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) leading licensing discussions and responses.

  • Implement a comprehensive safety case modification process to manage change during the construction lifecycle.

Experience Required Nuclear Safety Engineer Avonmouth:

  • A minimum of 7 years experience authoring nuclear safety cases and at least 5 years in managing safety consultants and developing safety strategies.

  • Proven senior-level involvement in nuclear safety assessment ideally including areas such as human factors shielding and criticality.

  • Familiarity with nuclear fuel cycle processes including enrichment fuel fabrication or deconversion is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of both nuclear and conventional hazards with experience in governance peer review and regulatory liaison.

  • Previous involvement in safety assessment for large industrial or nuclear projects particularly during construction and commissioning phases.

Candidate Profile Nuclear Safety Engineer Avonmouth:

  • Holds a Masters degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.

  • Established credibility as a senior nuclear safety professional.

  • Able to operate effectively with UK regulatory bodies and international project partners.

  • Willing to travel occasionally to France and Germany with the primary role based in Avonmouth.

  • Must be eligible for national security vetting and export control clearance.

Important Details:

  • This Nuclear Safety Engineer Avonmouth role is subject to national security and export control regulations.

  • Drug testing and administrative screening will be required in accordance with company policy.

  • The position will initially be based in Bristol transferring to the Avonmouth project site in due course.
