Job Description
Job Title: Dental Assistant
Specialty: Dental Services Support (Chairside Assistant)
Site: VA Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center
Place of Work (City/State): 16111 Plummer Street North Hills CA 91343
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of a 4 year extension
Shift Schedule: 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. (M-F)
License/Certifications Required:
- Current unrestricted license from the Committee on Dental Auxiliaries (COMDA) California (any state license accepted per Q&A)
- Dental Radiological Certificate
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification
Minimum Qualification / Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant
Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Provide chairside assistance in all areas of dentistry: prosthodontics periodontics oral surgery endodontics
- Prepare patients and instruments for dental treatment
- Record vital signs and assist in basic medical emergencies
- Operate dental x-ray equipment and assess image quality
- Maintain dental equipment and supply inventory in compliance with OSHA and infection control protocols
- Assist with laboratory duties and surgical dressings/specimens
Administrative and Technological Duties:
- Receive and route patients record care details and provide post-operative instructions
- Use electronic systems including:
- Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA)
- Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)
- Dental Record Manager Plus (DRM)
- Manage and protect sensitive patient data in accordance with HIPAA and VA regulations
