Job Description

Duties: Job Summary:Ensures that speech -language pathology services are administered and completed in a timely accurate and reliable manner. Provides speech -language pathology patient evaluations and treatment for hospital-based inpatient and/or outpatient services as well as associated clinical documentation. Maintains specific service delivery standards which address commitment to service customer satisfaction ongoing evaluation of customer expectations integration with quality process communication and interaction standards turn-around time and information processing standards corporate compliance requirements and physical amenities/environment of care. Job Responsibilities:-Comprehends interprets and follows medical prescriptions for Speech-Language Pathology. Applies the accepted principles methods and procedures of measurement prediction and evaluation tests to assess patients strengths and limitations providing clinical diagnoses and assists patient to achieve objective short and long term goals. Demonstrates knowledge of side effects and complications of services provided.-Administers and interprets clinical speech-language pathology services for assigned patients. Adjusts treatments according to patients response to speech-language pathology treatment protocol.-Maintains accurate records of each patients treatment progress and/or regression according to the Service Delivery Standard using paper or electronic systems as necessary. Maintains all necessary records required to meet the criteria established by reimbursement and regulatory agencies. Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.-Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with patients their families and other staff personnel. Participates in patient care conferences with other professionals involved in the management of cases. Provides patient/family education as needed.-Participates in planning decisions for patients post-discharge placement. Makes appropriate referrals and follows up to ensure proper placement and programming of patient. Interfaces with vendor to provide needed durable medical equipment.-Provides direction to departmental support staff departmental clerical staff (as duties relate to treatment) and to speech-language pathology students Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) and volunteers.-Maintains necessary CEUs for licensure and/or specialty specific certifications and professional organizations.-Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).-May assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Skills: Required Skills & Experience:-N/A Preferred Skills & Experience:-Previous clinical experience.-Experience with dysphagia and neurogenic communication disorders.

Education: Required Education:-Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Preferred Education:-N/A Required Certifications & Licensure:-Certificate of Clinical Competency (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship year candidate.-New York State licensure or eligibility to be licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist.-BLS Certification (AHA HSI or American Red Cross). Preferred Certifications & Licensure:-Certification Teach of Speech and Language Disabilities.

Schedule Notes: 20 week contract 40 hours/wk -Monday thru Friday 8 hour days Speech Language Pathologist NYS license required at time of submission All age groups Inpatient acute care therapist setting - is a trauma center with specialties such as neuro cardiac ICU Cardiac ICU oncology general medical/ surgery etc. Required: acute care therapist that ideally can do swallow assessments speech language cognitive assessments video flouroscopies and speech and swallow treatment
