THE ROLE: The Production Department Buyer/Planner will be responsible for the overall coordination of materials needed in the manufacturing of Smith-Blair products.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Responsible for the overall coordination of materials needed in the manufacturing processes of departmental products.
  • Responsible for the creation and execution of purchase orders and work orders within the Oracle ERP system.
  • Works with multiple vendors on material deliveries to stay abreast of production schedules and to minimizes material shortages.
  • Maintains departmental supplier Kanban systems.
  • Manages material consignment programs for major vendors.
  • Continuously reviews optimal inventory levels to reduce excess inventories while maintaining effect service levels.
  • Collaborates with the departmental supervisor to establish manufacturing production plan for customer orders in the departmental backlog.
  • Establishes and communicates production lead times as needed to sales department.
  • Monitors and takes appropriate actions on Engineering Change Notices
  • Issue and dispatch open work orders expeditiously to shop floor in order to maintain production schedule.
  • Work directly with department supervisor to resolve any late work orders and define schedule recovery.
  • Review daily work order statuses and update work order due dates as necessary.
  • Monitors discrepant materials affecting the production department.
  • Works closely with the Quality Control department to keep current on material non-conformances.
  • Work as backup department supervisor when necessary.
  • Participate in training activities both on and off site.
  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent training in Business Administration Supply Chain Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Must have knowledge and/or familiarity with the purchasing and planning processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint).
  • Must have ERP systems experience with Oracle based system experience desired.
  • Must be good and effective written and verbal communications.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role the working environment is both an indoor climate-controlled office and plant manufacturing environment. The physical demands may include but are not limited to occasionally lifting up to 35 pounds and prolonged exposure to indoor and outdoor environments.

SALARY:

The hourly pay range for this position is from a starting rate of $24.50. At Xylem we offer a generous benefit package including Medical Dental Vision plans 401(k) with company contribution vacation pay based on years of service and eleven (11) paid holidays.
