Job Description

Position Summary

The Community-Based Grief Counselor at Judis House participates in the development of the clinical milieu leads and offers guidance to the support group process conducts psychosocial assessments shares therapeutic expertise in order to provide best practices in grief support for children and their families aids in the professional development of trainees provides professional development to educators and other community professionals facilitates grief education workshops to youth offers support and guidance to the research initiative and conducts community outreach opportunities. The Community-Based Grief Counselor contributes to ongoing program improvement and the organizations commitment to Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion. The 9-month position works roughly from September through May.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community-Based Grief Counselor performs a wide range of duties:


CLINICAL

  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director of Community-Based Care for clinical and organizational supervision
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings
  • Facilitates community-based grief-therapy groups as assigned
  • Participate in the client intake and assessment process
  • Assesses individuals and families for the most clinically appropriate therapeutic services available
  • Assist Grief Care Coordinator with community-based referrals as appropriate
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness of groups by adhering to the established curriculum
  • Participate in completing additional activities as assigned (e.g. Memorial Event Teen Photo Showcase Hope for the Holidays etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining clinically accurate and timely record management
  • Responsible for participating in Continuing Education Units (CEU) in accordance with DORA and licensing requirements for current biennium
  • Work in a collaborative manner within the treatment team and throughout the organization
  • Provide consultation and clinical support for crisis assessment and intervention as assigned/needed
  • Provide one hour of clinical supervision per week per assigned trainee
  • Responsible for the clinical and professional development of assigned trainee as well as all trainees based on collaborative roles (e.g. co-facilitating groups interview presentation or client consultation)

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

  • Evaluate program effectiveness through observation experience and gathering feedback
  • Participate in data collection as part of standard intake follow-up and presentation procedures
  • Assist in development and oversight of the program curriculum activities and materials

COMMUNITY

  • Provide in-person and virtual grief education training to community members professionals and others
  • Respond to inquiries from the community about grief support services
  • Seek out and participate in outreach efforts to recruit families by making presentations and attending community events (e.g. Open House Community Resource Fairs Back to School Night)
  • Facilitate grief workshops for youth ages 6-18 in classroom and other community environments

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the values of JH/JAG throughout the organization and external relationships
  • Attend team and organizational meetings activities and events as required
  • Collaborate with JH/JAG staff and perform job duties to advance the organizations mission and vision
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and within a team and seek guidance as appropriate
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures
  • Commitment to JH/JAG Mission
  • Provide support to in-house programming when necessary

  • None


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Occasional evening and weekend work required.

Occasional remote work may be approved at the managers discretion.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $41004 - $58642

Spanish fluency adds 10% salary increase

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING

  • Licensed Doctoral or Masters level mental health professional registered with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Licensed Professional Counselor Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Psychologist.
  • Minimum of a masters level education in social work psychology therapy counseling or related field.
  • Two years of post-masters experience in grief counseling/support AND/OR child and adolescent counseling/therapy

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Experience providing therapeutic services in community settings
  • Experience conducting assessments and providing support services for children and their families
  • Effective communication and public speaking skills
  • Experience with grief loss and trauma as they relate to serving bereaved children and families
  • Familiarity with diverse populations and local community resources


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds at a time.
