Job Description

MLLParaprofessional

Northern High

Reports To: Building Principal

Pay Grade: Grade 3 Step 1 $16.68 per hour

Schedule: 5.9 hours per day / 29.5 hours per week / 5 days per week / School year position

Job Summary: To assist and support the academic and English language development of multilingual learner (MLL) students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 60 college credit hours; or an Associates or Bachelors degree; or Workkeys certification
  • Previous experience working with Multilingual (a.k.a. English learner) students
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational communication and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of students schools teachers and classrooms
  • TESOL Certification and/or SIOP Training
  • Experience working with secondary school age youth
  • Knowledge of the reading instruction
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and online learning software

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide English language development support to Multilingual Learner (MLL) students in all learning areas as directed by certified classroom teacher and ESL endorsed ELD Instructional Coach/MLL Coordinator
  • Work closely with newcomer MLL students to build English proficiency and help acclimate them to the American school setting
  • Collaborate with school personnel on best practices for working with newcomers and immigrant families
  • Observe and document student progress as requested
  • Support classroom teachers and principal in making data-informed decisions to meet MLL students instructional needs
  • Systematically communicate student progress with classroom teachers and MLL Coordinator
  • Staffing Family Outreach events for parents/guardians of MLL students
  • Attend staff meetings as requested
  • Attend data review meetings as requested
  • Attend professional learning as requested
  • Consistent and reliable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of students.

Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
