Position Summary
The Administrative Support Associate plays a key role in supporting the clinical and administrative operations of the Adams School of Dentistry ( ASOD ). This position is primarily responsible for patient registration and managing clinic schedules including scheduling canceling modifying and reconciling appointments within EPIC . The role requires frequent communication with faculty clinical staff and patients to ensure the smooth coordination of appointments and services. Additional responsibilities include answering incoming phone calls performing cashiering functions verifying insurance eligibility and assisting with the coordination of front desk operations. This position also supports administrative functions across multiple ASOD areas including Radiology Patient Admissions Urgent Care and Student Clinics. The Administrative Support Associate serves as a critical first point of contact for patients and visitors and plays an essential role in maintaining an efficient patient-centered environment.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Strong administrative and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical or healthcare setting. Customer service experience preferably in a medical dental or academic environment with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse population of patients students faculty and staff. Experience with scheduling systems electronic health records ( EHR ) or patient management software (e.g. EPIC ) including the ability to schedule modify and reconcile appointments accurately. Working knowledge of insurance verification and billing processes including handling patient payments and submitting claims. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in data entry and record keeping. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and other compliance requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook) and basic data entry. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment under minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience working in a dental or radiology clinical environment. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Familiarity with UNC systems and policies.
