Job Description

The State of Montana has a decentralized human resources (HR) system. Each agency is responsible for its own recruitment and selection. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

If you are the right person for this opportunity you will have the following knowledge skills or abilities:

Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time):

  • State and federal discrimination laws.
  • Administrative Rules of Montana.
  • Agencys administrative procedures.

Skill in:

  • Methods of informal investigation including drafting requests for information conducting interviews and other methods of research.
  • Interpersonal communication.
  • Collaboration and direction.

Ability to:

  • Convey complex information in a meaningful manner verbally and in writing.
  • Manage time a high caseload.
  • Think critically for the purpose of issue spotting.
  • Work with highly emotional and challenging people.
  • Adapt and be versatile due to discovery of unforeseen facts during an investigation as well as changes in law and protocol.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

As an Investigator you will sit for long periods and the majority of your time is spent keyboarding and on the phone. Most investigators work a 40-hour workweek but occasionally irregular hours are necessary. There are strict deadlines. Travel is involved in some cases

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with a strong mix of the attributes listed in the above Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) are desired. Candidates may demonstrate competency in the KSAs through experience formal education (including certificates credentials or degree-based programs) or a combination of both. Candidates may demonstrate competency in the KSAs through at least 6 years of experience formal education (including certificates credentials or degree-based programs) or a combination of the two. Candidates should clearly describe how their experience and education meets the identified KSAs and provide examples in their cover letter that demonstrate their qualifications.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective on July 1 2026.
