About the Role:

MEQ is looking for a detail-oriented and driven QA Engineer to join our team and help ensure the quality and reliability of our hardware and software solutions. Starting with ownership of the QA for our Android-based camera application this role will expand to include firmware embedded systems and cloud services. This is a hands-on role that blends physical test infrastructure at our Melbourne factory with advanced automated testing pipelines.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about building reliable systems designing repeatable test environments and collaborating across software hardware and data teams to deliver robust and innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

End-to-End Test Strategy

• Define and document end-to-end QA strategy for Android firmware hardware backend and data integrity.
• Responsible for cross-team coordination and discovery of testing requirements including Field Teams Software Hardware Machine Learning and Data functions
• Develop test plans cases and traceability matrices tied to product requirements.

Physical Test Infrastructure

• Collaborate with the hardware team onsite to design build and maintain mechanical test rigs.
• Integrate necessary sensors and monitoring systems for repeatable hardware validation.
• Create hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) test setups.

Digital Test Infrastructure

• Design build and maintain automated test pipelines (unit integration UI performance).
• Select and extend tools (Espresso Appium Selenium pytest custom frameworks) to support full-stack testing.
• Release Gatekeeping & CI/CD
• Integrate QA gates into DevOps workflows (Jenkins/Azure DevOps).
• Manage test environments and document test plans and results.

Metrics Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Establish quality metrics (coverage defect density MTTR) and dashboards.
• Lead root-cause analyses of escaped defects and implement preventive measures.

Travel & Onsite Requirements

• Weekly or bi-weekly onsite presence at the Melbourne factory to work directly with hardware and manufacturing teams.
• Flexibility to travel to customer sites for high-priority field testing or incident resolution.

About You:

Essential

• 3 years in QA Engineering including mobile app testing (Android).
• Hands-on experience with automation tools like Espresso Appium or pytest.
• Familiarity with embedded systems or hardware testing environments.
• Proficient in CI/CD tools and release workflows.
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

Background in IoT or hardware-based QA.

• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python Kotlin Java).
• Understanding of basic electronics sensors and PCB components.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams and dynamic project environments.
