Position Purpose:
Responsible for reviewing categorizing planning and approving hazardous waste materials for incineration disposal at Veolias Port Arthur TX facility and in accordance with site capabilities approved permits and appropriate regulatory requirements. Determine acceptability or rejection of chemical components of waste materials utilizing a variety of analytical MSDSs and facility information to expedite hazardous waste in a timely manner to the satisfaction of the customer and facility personnel. Ensures the approval process is in proper compliance with company policies and procedures.
Primary Duties /Responsibilities:
- Develop a thorough understanding of disposal capabilities and Waste Acceptance Plan (WAP) requirements for the Port Arthur Facility with the ability to complete final approval.
- Develop a thorough understanding of local state and federal regulations regarding disposal of hazardous waste.
- Review facility paperwork (i.e. Waste Profile Sheets (WPS) Supplemental Forms Waste Acceptance Review (WAR) etc.) for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify deficiencies/discrepancies with profile sheet information and representative sample analysis in coordination with customer service laboratory and sales coordinators. Communicate with internal customers to resolve as required.
- Complete and/or revise documents as necessary to execute or to update disposal decision.
- Provide technical assistance to internal customers such as sales and customer service on matters such as site acceptability of waste streams discrepancy resolution and site permit requirements.
- Identify and select appropriate analytical testing requirements for waste treatment and disposal.
- Communicate with operations and environmental departments regularly regarding acceptance of material from the standpoint of permits operations and safety and keep technical staff updated on any changes in acceptance conditions.
- Receive and process requests for profile modifications efficiently and accurately. Contact internal and external customers to resolve issues during the modification process.
- Evaluate reactive waste streams to determine what hazards they may present.
- Consult with internal resources including Health and Safety Environmental and Operations to ensure that re-actives and over packed drums can be safely managed.
- Provide technical assistance to sales customer service and customers for the safe handling packaging storage and treatment of materials.
- Provide technical support to receiving and operations departments.
- Actively works to reduce costs associated with the disposal/processing of material.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education / Experience / Background:
- B.S. in Chemistry Environmental Science or related field required
- Minimum of 5 years chemical industry or regulatory experience required
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Previous proven work experience with analytical/problem solving capability required
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Working knowledge of hazardous waste treatment regulations and disposal
- Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding hazardous waste management (i.e. RCRA TSCA and LDR regulations)
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite
- Strong team player
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
- Strong customer orientation
