Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Technical Specialist Distribution and Production to join our dynamic Distribution and Production team.
The Distribution team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing duties in manufacturing releasing and distributing blood products while the Production team is responsible for processing whole blood collections to the final this role you will report to the Distribution Supervisor and be responsible for providing technical expertise to Distribution and Production staff and to customers to clarify day-to-day transactional highly specific hospital requests for blood components and products.
Leveraging your communication skills you will collaborate with internal and external partners in clarifying highly specific hospital requests and maintaining optimum inventory management.
Applying your leadership abilities you will direct staff in the use and maintenance of specialized inventory by assisting with product selection managing searches for rare units HLA (human leukocyte antigens) matched platelets and special plasma protein products.
Drawing on your observational skills you will provide feedback to the Supervisor on new and emerging hospital requirements.
Utilizing your analytical thinking you will provide technical expertise to projects and initiatives identifying opportunities to improve internal processes and activities.
Employing your attention to detail you will perform document reviews.
Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution preferably with a specialty in Transfusion Medicine or Immunohematology.
Registration with the appropriate provincial licensing body for Medical Laboratory Technologists is required.
Five years of relevant laboratory experience in transfusion medicine is required.
Well versed in current Transfusion Medicine practices and trends. Specific knowledge of blood and blood product utilization is required.
Effective leadership and interpersonal skills demonstrated through communication and coaching.
Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team member in a multi-disciplinary and rapidly changing environment.
Strong organizational analytical and effective problem-solving skills are essential.
A proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers at all levels.
Experience working in a regulated GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environment is an advantage.

Shift/hours Monday to Thursday 0700-1500 Friday 0615-1415. Rest days are Saturday and Sunday.
Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
This position must meet the Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and is subject to criminal records and employment verification checks.
