Do you want to shape the delivery of Scotlands Census enabling governments and other public bodies to plan the services we all rely on and telling the story of Scotlands people for generations to come If so this post could be for you.

Scotlands Census is part of the Statistical Services business area of the National Records of Scotland (NRS).Planning for the next census in 2031 has begun and will build on the successes of the census in 2022. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Policy Manager to take forward the development and implementation of key census policies and associated legislation.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders including Ministers to provide high-quality policy advice while managing the census legislation process including impact addition you will oversee a team and ensure that all census-related products and strategies comply with legislation. Your role will offer significant exposure to senior leaders and the chance to contribute to an important public service that will have a lasting impact on Scotland and beyond.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Work with colleagues across NRS and SG leading on the development and instruction of key census legislation.
  • Support the associated bill process in support of the successful implementation of census legislation.
  • Liaise regularly with lead Ministers with programme responsibility for briefings and high-quality policy advice.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Census programme SGLD and Scottish Government to ensure that all the products and strategies produced for the census are compliant with the census legislation.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with colleagues in the Office of National Statistics and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency and share learning with colleagues across the programme.
  • Oversee and manage parliamentary queries as well as ad hoc high-profile enquiries from stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Be responsible for people management and development taking responsibility for the direction and vision of the team.
