Sinai Health is looking for a Professional Practice Lead (PPL) for Pharmacy to support our Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital Pharmacy Department. The successful candidate will divide their time between direct patient care (50%) and formal practice leadership (50%).
Reporting to the Manager of Pharmacy the Professional Practice Leader acts as a resource for the Hospital and provides clinical expertise for staff to ensure that best standards of practice are maintained which will contribute to Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital being viewed as a leader in providing high quality of patient care. The Professional Practice Leader works with considerable independence and initiative and provides leadership in clinical initiatives for the profession and within the Hospital.
In this role you will:- Provide leadership in the development of best practice standards for assigned profession in the Hospital while promoting interprofessional collaboration
- Provide direct patient care (50% of hours)
- Remain informed of and communicate changes in the legislation governing the professionals and the implications of these regulations to the Hospital
- Perform annual credentialing of all registered clinicians of their profession as well as when clinicians return from leave of absences
- Represent the profession and actively participate on specific Hospital wide committees or working groups as assigned (e.g. electronic documentation and optimization projects)
- Actively participates in and/or generates patient oriented and quality of care projects/research within the pharmacy department or in collaboration with other health care professionals
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures specific to practice within the professional profession
- Participate in the interviewing process of new candidates including candidate selection recommendation
- Develop and implement the orientation and onboarding of new hires
- Participate in clinical competency assessment and staff performance appraisals by providing feedback to leadership
- Conduct and chair monthly pharmacy council meeting to ensure communication with staff re: corporate initiatives (e.g. QIP Accreditation Meditech updates Academic strategy) and plan service accordingly
- Promote the advancement of the profession through research publications and presentations of clinical initiatives both within the Hospital and to the professional community
- Identifyand assesseducation learning needs
- Support harmonization of drug formulary with drug information staff
- Support collaboration between Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint pharmacy departments including facilitating patient flow
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements
Mandatory- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
- 3 years of experience as a Pharmacists in a hospital or health care setting
- Registered with the College of Pharmacist (Part A)
Preferred- Master Degree in Pharmacy
- Hospital Pharmacy residency or equivalent experience
- Academic appointment with University
Skills and Knowledge- Experience in leading and/or participate in quality improvement projects
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of the legislation governing the Profession as well as the implications for the hospital
- Demonstrated knowledge of current practice
- Demonstrates contribution to the development of the profession and participation in research initiatives.
- Maintains ongoing personal growth and professional development.
- Demonstrates commitment to mentorship supports staff and students and actively acts as preceptor/supervisor for students in clinical placements
- Experience presenting at conferences published articles an asset
- Demonstrates leadership in profession specific community (interest groups association involvement)
- Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications at an intermediate level
