Job Description

The Assistant Ash Crane Operator (AACO) is an entry level position and is subject to completing in-house progressive training to learn basic operations and maintenance skills in a first Class Power Plant. The AACO is preferred to possess their Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate or working towards their Fourth Class.

The Candidate will work on a 24/7/365 shift work schedule. The AACO will support all the operational maintenance and cleaning functions of the Plant.

Main Respnsibilities:

  1. Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards regulations and company policies
  2. Perform plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
  3. Conduct plant rounds and equipment inspections
  4. Operate the following heavy equipment Dozer Front End Loader Fork Lift Skid Steer AWP and Telehandler
  5. Operate Plant equipment as directed by the Shift Engineer
  6. Assist Operations and Maintenance crews where required
  7. Actively participate in preventative and corrective maintenance programs
  8. Conduct inspections analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions and take corrective action as required
  9. Maintain operating logs adhering to applicable regulations
  10. Inform incoming shift personnel and other persons concerned of matters requiring attention and the operating status of plant equipment
  11. Actively participate in the plant Lock Out/Tag Out program to ensure tasks are completed safely
  12. Provide relief for the Plant Operators
  13. Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  14. Direct coach train orient and work effectively with other staff
  15. May be required to assist and work at the other plant (in Merritt) for short assignments
  16. Participate in professional development both internal and external
  17. Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications :

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

  • Class 4 power engineering certification or working towards certification an asset
  • Effective communication problem solving interpersonal skills and demonstrated supervisory skills are highly desired
  • Previous experience in an industrial setting
  • Previous operational experience
  • Previous experience work with the Trades maintenance or in construction
  • Material handling heavy equipment dozer or loader experience
  • Experience with Material Handling

Work Environment: 

Permanent position offred on a full-time basis with 24/7/365 shift work required. 

  • Be able to work for prolonged periods in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Be able to tolerate dust and other airborne particles and work around other materials such as diesel lube oils etc. Under certain conditions while working in the plant may be required to wear a respirator.
  • Required to wear safety equipment and other PPE clothing where appropriate.
  • Requires frequent stooping bending climbing reaching and carrying use of hand tools (shovels brooms sledgehammers picks) and moving heavy objects.
  • Must be able to work from ladders scaffolds and high-lifts and in confined spaces.
  • Salary of 33.80 to 34.80 $/h depending on experience and licensing levels
