Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Project Management leads the Project Management Team and provides strategic oversight for the planning execution and delivery of projects across the community college system. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining project management standards ensuring alignment with institutional goals and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This role requires strong leadership strategic thinking and exceptional communication skills driving project excellence. The Director oversees the project management team and collaborates with stakeholders across academic and administrative units to ensure successful project outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  1. Lead the Project Management team including strategic planning personnel resources and performance management.
  2. Develop and implement an ACCS system office project management framework methodology and best practices.
  3. Oversee the planning execution monitoring and closure of strategic projects across departments.
  4. Manage a portfolio of projects ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and resource availability.
  5. Supervise and mentor project managers and cross-functional project teams.
  6. Facilitate project governance including steering committees status reporting and risk management.
  7. Collaborate with executive leadership to define project scopes timelines budgets and success metrics.
  8. Monitor project progress identify potential issues and implement corrective actions to keep initiatives on track.
  9. Communicate regular updates risks and milestones to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  10. Ensure compliance with institutional policies state regulations industry standards and accreditation standards.
  11. Promote stakeholder engagement and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  12. Drive process optimization and contribute to the development of project management methodologies.
  13. Communicate clearly and build team relationships within projects.
  14. Work with all ACCS divisions and institutions to foster a trusting relationship.

SECONDARY DUTIES:
  1. Provide training and professional development in project management practices.
  2. Support change management initiatives and organizational development efforts.
  3. Evaluate and implement project management tools and technologies.
  4. Conduct post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions to improve future performance.
  5. Assist in strategic planning and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
  6. Represent the college system in external project management networks and professional associations.
  7. Other duties assigned as needed.



Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelors degree in Business Administration Project Management Information Systems or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Minimum of 7 years of experience in project management with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
  3. Demonstrated success managing complex cross-functional projects in a large organization.
  4. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. PMI Agile Lean).
  5. Excellent leadership communication and organizational skills.
  6. Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  7. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.
  8. Expertise in project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project Smartsheet).

PREFERRED:
  1. Masters degree in Business Administration Project Management Information Systems or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Agile Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Waterfall or equivalent certification.
  3. Experience in higher education project management.
  4. Familiarity with community college operations and student-centered initiatives.
  5. Experience with change management and process improvement methodologies (e.g. Prosci Six Sigma).
