Research Specialist

Job Duties:

We are seeking a Research Specialist to join the Immunology Service Unit at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC). The successful candidate will support research focused on antibody and cell-mediated immune responses to viral pathogens immunotherapeutics and vaccine development. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Designing and conducting immunologic assays

Processing tissue and blood samples

Preparing test articles and viral stocks for experimental use

Performing laboratory techniques such as cell culture lymphocyte isolation flow cytometry PCR ELISA and cell sorting Additional duties involve data analysis maintaining detailed and organized laboratory records assisting with general lab upkeep and training new team members. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic fast-paced research environment. Biosafety Level 3 (BL-3) training and certification will be provided upon hire

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • 5% Reviews analyzes and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 10% Operates cleans and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 60% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Participates in the development interpretation and implementation of research methodology and materials

Department: UWMSN OVCR WNPRC Immunology Services

Compensation: Minimum starting annual rate of $46700

Required Qualifications: Strong consideration will be given to candidates with a solid foundation in immunology virology or molecular biology particularly those with hands-on experience in cell culture and/or flow cytometry. Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills a strong work ethic a willingness to learn and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications: While prior laboratory experience outside of a classroom setting is preferred recent graduates with relevant academic training are also encouraged to apply.

Education: Bachelors Degree in biological science cell biology immunology or relatable field
